the stone bridge rises magnificently over the river vardar in the central part of skopje, the capital of macedonia. the bridge connects the old and the new part of the city, and is the primary element of the daily communication of its inhabitants and visitors. there is no visitor who visited skopje and did not walk over it. the bridge connection the two part of Skopje not only physically, but also with time. all important events throughout history and all the events of today take place on it. this is the reason why the bridge deserves special treatment and care, because the loss of the bridge would mean the loss for an entire city. we talk about the kameniot most and bridges represent important symbols in the balkans.

the old railway station of skopje was built in 1940/41 and the local tourist information tells us, that it was the most beautifull on the balkans at that time. the clock on the frontside stopped at 5.17 at the moment when skopje, on july 26, 1963, was destroyed by an disastrous earthquake. today the city museum of skopje is located in this building.

when sauseschritt passes the nearby muslim kindergarden, one often tries to imagine what pupils learn there. and visiting the turkish shop, which has replaced the beloved "greisler" on the corner, one gets aware of the gap between how close we live in this district and how little we (want to) know about each other. and there is another observation: how self confident turkish women are in istanbul and how shy and silent in my neighbourhood.







opportunities to publicly celebrate pablo neruda´s birthday - anniversary were rather scarce in austria. sauseschritt wonders how fast an institution would forget about its history in supporting chilenan resistance against pinochets dictatorship. goodbye socialism and solidarity, spö. it IS difficult to remember, sauseschritt fully understands...

nun ja, die [hoffnungen ....] der enthusiastischen jungen frau in valparaiso vor fast einem jahr haben sich enttäuschenderweise nicht erfüllt.
the most convenient place(webcam) in vienna to fly your kite is the donauinsel near to the millenium tower and the
schulschiff. therefore the place is crowded with ambitious sportsmen and -women, who don´t care about others and almost kill each other with their kites on stormy days like last sunday.

teleopolis made us
aware of the possibility to watch his film "submission" (2004, english, dutch subtitles) and have our own opinion on what it means to hurt other´s feelings... and yes, it is a controversial issue, but nobody seems to have seen the
movie!
three women, who´s persistance created added value to this world and should be congratulated and thanked for their efforts: ruxandra balic from romania, julia jusik from russia and eva kreisky from austria!

(1) julia jusik, eine junge russische journalistin der wahrheit (=prawda), die tschetschenien besucht hat, um mit jenen "schwarzen witwen" zu reden, die immer wieder in den medialen mittelpunkt gerückt werden. nicht nur ihre recherchen vor ort, sondern auch die verbreitung ihres buches wurden und werden von den russischen behörden behindert. emma (ja! diese zeitschrift gibt es auch noch!)

(2) ruxandra balaci, künstlerische direktorin des museums für contemporary art in bukarest hat dieses gegen große widerstände rumänischer (alt-) politiker letztendlich doch durchgesetzt, und zwar mit standort im sgn. ceauscescu palast. die eröffnung fand vor zwei wochen statt. die ambivalenz der geschichte und des standortes adressiert sie sogar an die künstler, indem sie auf der
